Apple Crumble

Ingredients

Apple Layer

  • 6 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 small lemon or approx. 1½ tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ to 1/2 cup maple syrup (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • 1 tbsp flour

Crumble Layer

  • 1 cup organic flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup rapadura sugar
  • 120g butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (fan-forced).
  2. Peel and chop the apples into small cubes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, maple syrup, and flour. Toss until everything is well coated.
  4. In another bowl, mix together the flour, oats, rapadura sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  5. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  6. Spread the apple mixture evenly into a baking dish.
  7. Top with the crumble mixture, spreading it out evenly.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden and crisp and the apples are tender.
  9. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of thick Greek yoghurt.
